Scotland is recognized as the home of the game of golf, so it seems fitting that the game arrived in Florida due to a planned Scot colony. The manager of the company, John Hamilton Gillespie constructed a two-hole course around 1886. By 1905, he had built another course that sprawled over more than 100 acres and featured nine holes.
