I know you want to play like Tiger Woods but getting there means spending lots of hours hammering out the basics over and over again. Here's 3 golf swing tips to help get you started in the right direction.
1). You need to properly turn your shoulder in order to hit the ball accurately. Some golfers are under the misconception that turning the left heel to much off the ground will achieve this result.
While doing this does make the hip turn, and that's great, it doesn't generate any recoil. The lesson here is simple - do not turn too much - recoil is generated through other aspects of the golf swing.
Second, you must never let your chin rest against the chest because this will make it difficult to swing the left arm across the upper during the back swing. The correct way to do is it to keep the chin up and allow the left arm to move freely across the chest. This will give you the wide arc that is needed to hit the ball in the right direction.
3). Try to relax - breath deeply and evenly, focus your attention on what you are doing. If your mind is not relaxed you'll have a harder time trying to member the steps we have covered and it will disrupt your natural cadence of hitting the ball correctly.
Focusing like this is difficult when you want to win the game, but it means the difference between winning and losing more times than not. Block everyone around you out, concentrate on breathing, focus on the swing and it'll come together for you.
Remember "Happy Gilmore"? Learning to relax and focus like we've described is exactly what he did to overcome some great odds and win at his game.
You might not get all these three tips overnight but if you practice regularly, you will get the hang of things. You have to remember that professional golfers also make mistakes and that they don't always win each time they are in a tournament.
Look at it this way: You have nothing to lose in a tournament. You're the "underdog" and so every game you improve your swing a little at a time and each improvement is a victory in itself. Naturally, things do change when you have done well all through a tournament and people expect you to play as well as you did the last time.
If nothing else, try to remember tip#3 because winning and losing is all a matter of having the right attitude. Attitude is in your mind and that's where it all starts. Until you get it right keep practicing at home, on the course and at the driving range.
Proper technique and mindset are what these 3 golf swing tips are all about. How well you're going to play starts at tee off which makes it so critical that you start off with the right technique and attitude so you won't have difficulty when you're 4 yards from the last hole.
You may surprise yourself and get a "hole in one" - hey it happens! Take the techniques you've learned up to the next hole which may be even tougher than the last one, and make them work for you.
When you're out there on the green, it all comes down to you and how well you have practiced these 3 golf swing tips. Practice Practice Practice!
