Amongst the most well known brands of fairway woods is Callaway - one of the leading manufacturers of golf products. Callaway fairway woods can be broken down into four distinct categories, where each applies to a specific player type.
Phil Mickelson has a Callaway FT Tour Fairway Wood. Phil usually shoots his wood from the fairway to the green, and does it quite effectively. Callaway's FT series, apart from woods, contains irons and drivers. The two letters - FT - stand for Fusion Technology and reflect the blend of materials that goes into the production of these golf clubs. The company employs stainless steel and tungsten in the Callaway FT series. The FT Tour woods also have an interesting system of altering the weighting of the clubs, called Opti-Fit. This technology allows the players to change the weight settings of their woods easily and quickly, to customize the club for the slice or the fade in the swing.
The next player we will talk about is Ernie Els. Ernie is a PGA legend, and has a Callaway X Fairway Wood 19 in his bag. The X series differ from the FT series in two aspects - they have a larger head volume, and a steel face, and are aimed at generating the maximum possible ball speed at the point of contact with the ball. One other PGA player who uses the X series is Graeme McDowell.
Rocco Mediate is amongst the players that have Callaway woods. He plays a Callaway FT-I Squareway 3-wood, and the Squareway series are widely known for their forgiveness. The MOI that the Squareways produce can easily match the MOI of any driver on the market, and the design allows to move the weight of the club to the perimeters, thus resisting twisting.
What about the lady golfers? Annika Sorenstam has Callaway woods in her bag. She has been seen playing the 15-degree Callaway Tour X fairway woods, and the 5-wood from the same series. She has won numerous competitions in the 2000-2009 decade using Callaway woods.
Cristie Kerr is another LPGA professional example. She has Callaway Big Bertha fairway woods, which are made with a stainless steel clubhead, allowing the player to enjoy a combination of good forgiveness and notable ball speed. The Big Bertha is quite a popular model in the Callaway series.
